Dear Residents, Family members, and Friends:

Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center – Pasco has been following the guidance and directives of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the County and State Health Departments regarding COVID-19 and infection control and prevention. The facility has contracted with the State of Washington to serve as a COVID specialty facility. As such, other facilities that do not have the capacity to care for COVID-19 positive residents may transfer those residents to our facility to receive care on our COVID-19 unit. Currently, there are no residents who have tested positive for the virus who are being cared for at the facility and one resident being cared for at the hospital. The residents at the facility are being cared for under isolation precautions in a dedicated COVID unit with dedicated staff. Decisions regarding transfer of positive residents to the hospital are made in consultation with the hospital, the resident’s physicians, and the resident’s family. We have no new-onset of respiratory symptoms of three or more residents or staff members within the past 72 hours.

The total number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 or been admitted as COVID-19 positive since early April is 209. Of these, 184 were COVID-19 positive upon admission and were admitted for care in our COVID unit. We have had 181 residents recover. It is with great sadness that we report that twenty-seven residents passed away either at the hospital or at the facility. We are heartbroken over this and extend our most sincere condolences to the families of the residents.

Regarding staff, we have had 26 staff members test positive for the virus since early April, all of whom have recovered. All staff members are screened before entering the facility pursuant to CDC guidelines and are sent home if they report any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness. All staff are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) pursuant to CDC guidelines.

We are working diligently to limit the spread of the virus to other residents of the facility and are communicating this news to our residents, staff, and their loved ones.

We are limiting access to the building and carefully screening all people entering our facility in accordance with CDC and CMS guidelines. We are also following the CDC and CMS guidance that applies once a nursing facility has a confirmed COVID-19 positive case, as well as working closely with our physician partners and the County Health Department.

Our top priority remains the safety of staff, residents, and visitors. This includes making sure all of our employees and staff throughout the facility understand how to protect themselves and the residents in their care.

We are dedicated to providing quality care for our residents. We will continue to fight to keep our residents and staff safe.

Please reach out directly to the Facility Administrator with any questions or concerns that you have.

With gratitude,

Your Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center – Pasco facility administration
